The governor, who is on a tour of local government councils in the state was scheduled to visit Rumuoprikom, which is the ancestral home of the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike.
Rotimi Amaechi and Nyesom Wike are far from best friends and have been at loggerheads for quite some time.
According to witnesses of the incident, the community youths after hearing of the proposed visit of Amaechi, they barricaded all entrances to the traditional ruler’s residence where the governor was expected to pay homage.
The youths said that the community is the main stead of the PDP and the governor should not visit the area. As the crowd got close to the palace of the monarch, a staunch supporter of Amaechi, he fired gunshots which incidentally hit his son, Clement Owabie.
The boy reportedly sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital, after which the angry youths vandalised the traditional ruler’s palace.
Owaibe was thereafter arrested with four other persons by the police.
